Frequently Asked Questions about my plan to take on middle grades fiction and nonfiction

Why do I have this plan?
I've always liked middle grades novels a lot—more, really, than fiction for adults—and I have some contacts that can help in my education and in building editor relationships. It's also not that far off that my older child will be ready to help me stay in touch with this market.

When will I begin reviewing material in this genre for possible representation?
Sometime in 2008. I will post the information to my guidelines [make link] when I'm ready. I'm imagining it may take a good while to find material that is sufficiently compelling to take on, and I'm good with that.

Can you send me something before I announce that I'm ready to look at this genre?
No. I will not read it.

What do I mean by middle grades?
Past chapter books and early readers, but not for people over 12. That means, for one thing, that it's squeaky clean. Your local bookstore is probably the best way to determine where a book falls.
